Bernabe Figoura Williams is a talented jazz musician. He was born in San Juan and was brought up in Vega Alta and as a teenager he was strongly interested in classical guitar. He is a significant and highly praised musician. He got classical training as a guitarist. Bernie was actually very passionate about singing and creating (composing) music. This was because of the impacts like jazz classical, Brazilian, Latin and pop music.
Williams’s foremost debut with a label, “The Journey Within”, got released on 22 nd June 2003. Though being the lead singer and the guitarist he composed 7 songs for this album. ‘Desevaldo’ and ‘La salsa En Mi’ are the tracks which are a blend of his passion for the Latin and jazz music from his Puerto Rican heritage.
His first solo was a remixed version of his song ‘Just because’, which features
David Benoit. The other spotlights of his career are ‘Para don Berma’, which is his heartiest accolade to his father, the revised version of the songs ‘samba novo’, and ‘la salsa’ the background singing of which is given by Grammy award achiever Ruben blades and salsa superstar Gilberto Santa Rosa. They also joined him in all – celebrity band of musicians, which embraces several Grammy achiever banjos – player Bela Fleck, keyboard player David Sancious, bassist Leland Sklar, percussionist Luis Conte, guitar player Tim Pierce, and drum players Kenny Aronoff and Shawn Pelton, from amongst the others. He has named one of his song as ‘Bernie Jr’ (which is his son’s name).
